Close to 200 hundred people of all ages assembled in front of Greenwich Town Hall on Thursday night for a beautiful candlelight vigil, sharing their prayers for Charlie Kirk, his family, and our Country, while fighting back the tears.

We heard numerous touching stories about how Charlie personally impacted the lives of so many people in our community and beyond. How he taught conservatives to be brave and find the courage to speak up, even in the middle of the most liberal places in the world, college campuses. And how his videos brought families closer together.

Young people talked about how Kirk inspired them, particularly the fact that he was not afraid to share his spirituality and love of God.

Pastor Ruth, the prayer leader from Harvest Time Church in Greenwich, delivered a powerful and emotional prayer, praying that the country would be united once again, because that is what Charlie wanted. Praying for his wife, Erika, and his family to find comfort. And praying that Charlie's legacy persists and awakens young people to carry on his mission -- it surely will.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out last night on such short notice, we know a lot of people had scheduling conflicts, were traveling, etc.

We had an opportunity to chat with Leora Levy today about her very special relationship with Charlie, having gotten to know him well over the years.

She was devastated by the assassination of her friend.

“In his young life, Charlie made a big difference by influencing millions of people.  He was a visionary leader and would have accomplished much more for America if he had had the chance," she said. "May God bless him and May God bless his young family, Erika and their two beautiful children.  I am heartbroken for them.  May Charlie’s memory forever be a blessing.”

Photos of the vigil quickly circulated on Facebook last night.

That's when some trolls got busy.

They complained that we held a vigil for Charlie Kirk, and not for other shootings.

They complained that we held a vigil for a person they deemed "racist" and worse.

And yes, someone actually called Charlie a "Nazi with a podcast."

Some of the comments even upset democrats.

One lifelong democrat who disagreed with Kirk on basically everything wrote, "it saddens me to realize that fellow democrats are so full of hate."

That comment was directed toward Meghan McSharry, who comes from a bit of a political family and serves as the Membership Administration contact for the League of Women Voters in Greenwich. She called Charlie a racist, a bigot and more. She also seems to think that anyone who shares a different viewpoint from her own is guilty of spreading hateful rhetoric.

Too bad the trolls couldn't stop themselves from spreading hate in response to a tragedy.

Too bad they couldn't experience the love we felt last night at a beautiful and touching vigil for a man who meant so much to so many.

And too bad they couldn't appreciate the many heartfelt comments about Kirk being a committed husband, a father of two beautiful children, a man of great Christian faith, a peaceful professor of his beliefs, a teacher, a masterful debater, an inspiring public speaker, and being "committed to free speech and the art of persuasion."
