Last month, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) published their official program: Workers Deserve More. It's one of the craziest things we've read in a long time.
You can go ahead and forget about the U.S. Constitution, because the Democratic Socialists want an entirely new political system — complete with public ownership of the biggest companies, the end of ICE, the end of the Senate, and a judiciary and executive that answer to Congress.

They would abolish the Electoral College, replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary “chosen by and subordinate to Congress,” and scrap the Senate entirely. Proportional representation, ranked-choice voting, and a multi-party system would replace the two-party setup they claim is “asleep at the wheel.” Non-citizens who are permanent residents would vote. So would incarcerated people.
Foreign policy means “End the U.S. War Machine”: defund the Department of War, close overseas bases, and end “all foreign wars.” “Free Palestine” demands the right of return, the right to “resist military occupation,” Jerusalem as the capital of a free Palestine, an end to all military and economic aid to Israel, and prosecution of “U.S. and Israeli leaders responsible for the genocide in Gaza.” They also want to end sanctions and embargoes on Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran.
At home they want to “fully abolish the police and prison system,” demilitarize departments now, end qualified immunity, treat addiction as a health issue rather than a crime, and redirect police funding. They also want to abolish ICE, end detentions and deportations, punish agents, grant amnesty to everyone regardless of status, and scrap visa caps.
Housing becomes publicly owned social housing, complete with universal rent control. The largest corporations would go under public ownership. A 32-hour workweek with full pay and benefits is non-negotiable. Education would be “free” through college and include the cancellation of all student debt. “Free universal healthcare” includes “complete access to reproductive and gender-affirming care” at no cost. “Feminism for all” means full queer liberation and the end of “patriarchal restrictions on abortion, childbirth and childraising, gender expression and transition, marriage, and divorce.”

DSA would end the use of fossil fuels and enact the Green New Deal. Energy and transit infrastructure would become publicly owned. Aggressive wealth taxes would be placed on the richest individuals and corporations in order to redistribute wealth for public goods and infrastructure.
And the socialists want to “Finish Reconstruction,” which means ending the “legacies of slavery and colonialism” — and reparations, of course.

This is the document that all DSA candidates are expected to follow, including those in Connecticut, like State Rep. Laurie Sweet of Hamden, State Rep. Nick Gauthier of Waterford, and CAIR-darling State Rep. Maryam Khan.
The Democrat Party is telling you that they are a “big tent” party that has room for socialist ideas — but some ideas don’t belong in any tent, because they would destroy our country as we know it.
What we want to know is why aren’t Greenwich State Reps. Steve Meskers and Hector Arzeno denouncing these crazy ideas supported by their peers? Where is Jill Oberlander’s warning about the dangers of socialism? Does any local Democrat care to comment — or are they just going to keep their heads down and pretend everything is going to be okay?
