The Greenwich Landscapers Coalition has started a petition to try to stop the ban on gas-powered leaf blowers that has been proposed by the progressive activists at Quiet Yards Greenwich.

The Coalition wants to postpone any potential leaf blower ordinance for at least a year. It says that the cost of the new equipment is considerable, as much as triple the cost of gas blowers. The service and maintenance options for electric machines are extremely limited. The batteries last only 25 minutes. Recharging during the day could be tricky, and drive expenses much higher (which would be passed onto customers). They cite issues with lithium ion battery fires and lack of recycling options. And point out that the technology really just isn't there yet for heavy commercial use.

Members of the Coalition handed out information packets at Monday night's Representative Town meeting (RTM) requesting "a more thoughtful and thorough approach to a noise ordinance / proposal" that takes all of the landscapers insights into consideration. The RTM is the town's legislative body.

Quiet Yards Greenwich intends to place a stand alone ordinance, not tethered to any other ordinance, on the call for the January RTM meeting.
