State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-16) announced today that he and Rep. Gale Mastrofrancesco (R-80) will represent Connecticut at the America250 State Fair on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., during the nation’s Independence Day celebration after Connecticut declined to participate in the official state exhibit.
The America250 State Fair is one of the signature events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, featuring exhibits from all fifty states and inviting visitors to celebrate each state’s unique history, culture, and contributions to our nation. Attendees will also receive commemorative “state passports” that can be stamped as they visit each state’s exhibit.
After learning that Connecticut would not be participating, Sen. Sampson and his staff contacted America250 organizers and received permission to represent the Constitution State at its designated booth and welcome visitors from across the country.
“The 250th anniversary of America should be a time to celebrate our shared history and the remarkable story of our nation,” said Sen. Sampson. “This isn’t about partisan politics. It’s about proudly representing Connecticut and honoring the generations of Americans who built and defended the greatest nation in the history of the world.”
“I wish Connecticut’s government had chosen to participate officially, but I wasn’t willing to let our state go unrepresented. Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or unaffiliated voter, this is our state and our country’s milestone. I’m honored to stand on behalf of all Connecticut residents and share the rich history and contributions of the Constitution State with visitors from across America,” Sen. Sampson added.
Sen. Sampson and Rep. Mastrofrancesco will greet visitors at Connecticut’s booth, sign commemorative state passports, and celebrate Connecticut’s central role in the founding of the United States during the Independence Day festivities from July 2nd until July 5th.
“As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we should remember that our freedoms and our heritage belong to all Americans,” Sen. Sampson said. “I’m proud to help ensure Connecticut has a presence at this historic national celebration.”
Also on hand for the State Fair will be WTIC news talk radio personality Reese on the Radio.
Reese posted a video on June 26th, lamenting Governor Lamont's decision to skip what was meant to be a celebration of American exceptionalism after seeing a mostly empty Connecticut booth with chairs that many people mistook for toilets.
After a huge response, and with a little help from some friends, Reese was able to obtain approval to broadcast his show live from DC on July 3rd and 4th.
Looks like Connecticut will have some representation at the State Fair after all.
