Federal immigration agents continued Enforcement and Removal Operations across Connecticut this week, with activity reported in Stamford on Monday, Tuesday and again today following larger actions in Danbury. ERO operations continue in Danbury as well.
CT Students for a Dream claimed at least 21 people were detained as of August 24—including 16 in Danbury, 4 in Stamford, and 1 in Bridgeport—alleging “numbers are likely quadruple these figures” without citing any further evidence.
In Stamford, reports detailed detentions of tree-removal workers and activity near locations including Home Depot, Richmond Hill Ave, Lockwood Ave, Wilson St, Harbor Point, and Stamford Train Station. Agents were described as operating in neighborhoods “with large immigrant populations.” Some individuals were released after showing documentation.
The Centinal contacted ICE for comment about the on-going operations across Connecticut. An ICE spokesperson told the Connecticut Centinal:
“For operational security and the safety of our officers, ICE will not disclose or discuss law enforcement operations.
“Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, if you break the law, you will face the consequences. Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S.”
Connecticut’s sanctuary policies and Trust Act continue to prevent local police from cooperating. Videos circulating this morning appear to show Stamford police speaking with federal law enforcement, but it is unclear what is being said.
Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons posted on Facebook that she was “horrified by the cruelty" of federal immigration enforcement actions.
“Our city is not made safer when people are randomly removed from our streets and their rights are violated,” Simmons wrote. She emphasized that Stamford “unequivocally remains an inclusive and welcoming city for all immigrants” and provided links to legal aid and rapid response groups, including Jewish Family Services of Greenwich, which expanded in 2023 into providing “refugee services” thanks to $2.5 million in grants from the state.
Activists framed these routine enforcement actions as something far more sinister.
A lightly attended “peaceful vigil & speakout” to “end ICE terror,” organized Tuesday night by the National Workers’ Network and SNUI (Stamford and Norwalk Unites for Immigrants), called for unity “to protect themselves” from “violent operations.” They demanded expanded immigrant protections to end the alleged “ICE terror” in Connecticut.
Protesters also held an “abolish ICE” sign to show “solidarity with Delaney Hall strikers” and to call for the immediate release of all detainees.
Former State Representative David Michel, who tagged Democratic Socialists and other leftist groups in his post, went even further. He claimed ICE was staking out courthouses, workplaces, places of worship, and homes, and added that “hospitals and churches are no longer federally considered as places of sanctuary.”
He called the operations a “targeted wave of abductions on Latinos and Haitians” that is “terrorizing communities” and labeled them a “pandemic of hate.” He urged Connecticut mayors to ban ICE—which he later described as “fascist hell brigades”—from all municipal and state property.
Michel demanded transparency from Mayor Simmons on any city collaboration with ICE and how she would “fight it,” while complaining about police drones filming press conferences. He argued it is a “pandemic of hate” targeting non-white immigrants and even called for a special session to address the fact that ICE is conducting removal operations in Connecticut.
Stamford Indivisible described the activity in an email as both an “ICE abduction” and “kidnappings taking place in the street, at Home Depot, in front of courthouses, and in our neighborhoods.” They recommended donating to the same organizations highlighted by Mayor Simmons.
CT Students for a Dream Executive Director Tabitha Sookdeo called on “every elected official and every school superintendent in Connecticut to step up: clearly tell your constituents that you will protect them, and organize resources and legal clinics.”
Meanwhile, local moms stepped up in a different way—by offering to aid illegal alien parents by shuttling their children to school.
Spanish-language alerts warned “Hispanic brothers” in work clothes to change outfits, avoid stores and gas stations, and know their rights—while urging people with documentation to run errands for those without.
This is the predictable result of years of Connecticut Democrats treating illegal presence as a protected class. Day laborers, tree workers, and others here unlawfully are not “random” victims; they are in violation of federal immigration law. ICE is not “kidnapping” or staging “cruelty”; it is removing people who have no legal right to be here. Local politicians issue statements about “dignity” and “values” but show no respect for the rule of law.
Thank you, once again, to the ICE agents operating across Connecticut. While the political class and activists scream about “fascism” and organize rides for the children of illegal aliens, federal officers are cleaning up the mess created by sanctuary policies.
