Around 75,000 Stamford residents received a postcard from the Registrar's Office with incorrect polling location information on one side, but allegedly correct information on the side with the recipient's name.
Residents in one household, for instance, received postcards with three different polling locations.
The Registrar's office is blaming a printing error for the mistake, a mistake that cost about $29,000 in postage alone.
A brand-new mailing on a different color of paper with correct information on both sides of the postcard is scheduled to go out Wednesday night, and in the meantime, Stamford residents are being urged to throw away the misprinted cards.
Some residents also complained that they received postcards for people who haven't lived in the state for 5-10 years or longer. When asked about this issue, the Registrar said that every spring, a canvas card is sent to Stamford residents. If the card is not returned to the Registrar, then the Registrar said she "wouldn't know" if someone had moved... which begs the question... isn't there a better way to do this because if someone moves, they might not receive that canvas card in the mail.
A post about the printing error on NextDoor by Carl Weinberg, a Stamford Board of Representatives member from District 20, drew a handful of comments.
Interestingly, one comment was flagged and subsequently deleted by the moderator.
The commenter said, "I'm not buying that this was an "error" 20+ years and this never happened. Just an accident I'm sure. VOTE EARLY Folks."
Apparently the moderator, Evan, decided the comment was misinformation and/or a conspiracy theory.
The same moderator was previously called out for deleting a post that turned out to be true.
For sake of clearing up any confusion, Stamford residents can check their polling location online.
