U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) announced his 2024 March Earmark Madness Tournament which consists of 16 of the "most egregious earmarks" he found in the $1.2 trillion spending bill in front of Congress this week.
Two Connecticut earmarks made the Top 16, including $85K to Waterbury Public School District to increase school attendance and $150K to CitySeed, Inc., in New Haven to expand Sanctuary Kitchen, a culinary training program aimed at immigrants, migrants and asylum seekers.
But there are other earmarks from Senators Richard "Danang Dick" Blumenthal and Chris Murphy that could have just easily made the list.
Like the $500k to the Urban League of Greater Hartford for an equity and empowerment center.
Or the $406K to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield for equity training.
And the $85K for the promotion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives at Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) in North Haven, CT.
You can find the complete list of 2024 earmarks submitted by Blumenthal and Murphy on their websites.
Thank you for shedding light!
