US Congressman from Connecticut’s 4th District, Jim Himes, recently voted against H.R. 5, The Parents Bill of Rights.
Among other things, H.R. 5 would require that curriculum is freely and publicly available on the internet for all elementary and secondary schools. It would also guarantee the right to know if a school employee or contractor acts to change a child’s gender, pronouns, or preferred name; allows a child to change sex-based accommodations, including locker rooms or bathrooms; or acts to treat, advise or address a student’s mental health.
The bill passed in the House on March 24, 2023, and is headed to Senate next for consideration.
When asked why he voted against the bill, a Legislative Correspondent for Himes indicated, “it is not the federal government’s responsibility to dictate how our schools operate on the local level, and certainly not the place of Congress to be involved in issues regarding course materials and library book lists.”
Himes agreed that parents deserve to have a role in their child’s education, though he believed that providing parents transparency around curriculum would create an “onerous” and “burdensome" requirement for schools and set the “dangerous precedent” of allowing a “handful of voices” to dictate what books children could access.
Further, Himes apparently believes in hiding children’s mental health struggles and gender identity from parents. He actually called it a “burdensome barrier” to require parental consent for mental health screening and treatment, and for changing a child’s pronouns or sex-based accommodations.
Why does Himes hate parents so much? And how does he keep getting reelected?
Can we start to get viable candidates in CT to defeat the Marxists like Jim Hines? Right now the CT GOP is to the left of AOC. It's depressing.
Then close the Department of Education down.
(Himes is a D.)
Ok, I think crooked Tyrannical Politicians are “Burdensome”
