President Donald J. Trump has proclaimed November 1–7, 2026, as Anti-Communism Week, renewing America’s commitment to life, liberty, and the free market against ideologies that have produced “suffering, poverty, exploitation, violence, and misery for millions.”
The White House simultaneously released a detailed accounting of the Democratic Socialists of America’s 2026 “Workers Deserve More” agenda, projecting roughly $49 trillion in added federal deficits over a decade—about $355,000 per American household—and severe damage to wages, housing, jobs, and growth whether financed by borrowing or taxes.
The Proclamation: A Clear Warning
In the November 3 proclamation, Trump stated that for more than a century, “human freedom has been threatened by communist and socialist ideologies that eliminate individual opportunity, subjugate individuals to the state, and extinguish the God-given rights upon which free nations are built.” He reaffirmed that the United States was founded on inherent rights and government by the consent of the governed, principles that “continue to distinguish our way of life from that of all other countries on Earth.”
The president noted renewed threats from “socialist, communist, and radical leftist ideologies” gaining expression inside the country. “Under my leadership, America will never fall victim to these evil ideologies, and the United States will never become a communist country,” he declared. The week honors victims of socialism and communism, calls for defense of the Constitution and the free market that built American prosperity, and urges citizens to “stand firm in their defense against any threat to the American way of life and to protect our burning flame of liberty from the darkness of communism.”
The Real Cost of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) Agenda
The companion White House analysis of the DSA’s eight major policy commitments finds that seven would add about $49 trillion to federal deficits over ten years, bringing the total cost to the budget or economy to $52.8 trillion.

Financing that sum—roughly $4.9 trillion annually—through borrowing or tax increases produces stark results:

Across the country, the same agenda is projected to eliminate as many as 6.9 million jobs through a mandated 32-hour workweek, remove another 1.1 million workers via a wealth tax, wipe out 3.3 million rental homes under rent control, cut medical productivity by 22 percent under Medicare for All, saddle each household with $91,000 in Green New Deal costs, and shrink the median 401(k) by $2,100.
The analysis also links DSA public-safety proposals—reducing police and prison capacity and reclassifying offenses—to higher crime, lower life expectancy, and increased child poverty. These are not abstract projections; they quantify the difference between free-market growth and state-directed redistribution.

Why This Matters in Connecticut
Connecticut’s entire U.S. House delegation previously voted against a resolution condemning socialism in all its forms. The state has long ranked among the highest-taxed in the nation, with progressive majorities repeatedly advancing higher levies on high earners, capital gains surcharges, mansion taxes, and expanded spending that echoes elements of the DSA platform. The Connecticut chapter of the DSA has grown more active and declared victory in the 2026 midterms, which means even more progressive bills are likely to be introduced in the 2027 legislative session.
