You just can't make this stuff up.
Republicans have been screaming from the mountaintops about absentee ballot fraud undermining elections, especially since the Democrats entire 2020 strategy seemed to revolve around absentee ballots and ensuring people stayed at home in fear of covid.
But when Republicans cried foul over rampant fraud with absentee ballots, they got mocked, ridiculed and told that 2020 was the safest election in history.
Yeah, right.
Well, how's this for irony.
After Bridgeport political operatives got caught in a massive absentee ballot fraud scandal, the Democrat Secretary of State, Stephanie Thomas, is now telling people to vote in person.
“Our monitors cannot do it all, and we encourage anyone who can do so to vote in person on January 23rd. If someone voted by absentee ballot but is unsure if they should have done so, they may withdraw their absentee ballot by going in-person to the Town Clerk’s office before 10 a.m. on Election Day, and they may then vote at their assigned polling place,” said Thomas in a statement yesterday.
She's probably concerned because of the volume of absentee ballots that were requested on the first day.
On December 29, 2023, the first day that absentee ballot applications became available for the January 23, 2024, mayoral primary in Bridgeport, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas released that 3,620 absentee ballot applications were signed out of the Bridgeport Town Clerk office by 10:30 a.m. By 3:30 p.m., a total 4,690 absentee ballot applications had been requested.
Due to the large number of requests, the Office of the Secretary of the State contacted the campaigns of both Democratic primary candidates to ensure they had received reminders on the process. Secretary Thomas further issued instructions for the absentee ballot application process to ALL Bridgeport residents.
Let's see if that works.
