Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo announced a new business item—a proposed flag policy—that will be raised at the next Board of Selectmen meeting, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 24th at 10am at Town Hall and via Zoom.
The town of Greenwich is abuzz over the new policy that Camillo is expected to announce.
The proposed change would mean the town would fly just three flags: the U.S. flag, the State of Connecticut flag, and the Town of Greenwich flag. If a special interest group wants to fly a ceremonial flag at Town Hall (e.g., pro-life flag, Ukraine flag, Pride flag), it would require a majority vote.
The Chair of Greenwich Republicans, Beth MacGillivray, was pleased to learn about the First Selectman's proposed changes, saying she "supports the proposal for the primary display of the three significant flags representing state, local and federal government entities, rather than adopting a new flag daily for diverse circumstances."
As soon as news about the new policy broke, whispers emerged that Greenwich democrats might try to pack the meeting room in order to protest the new policy.
