The Greenwich Democrat Town Committee (DTC), concerned about on-target criticisms of their policies and candidates, recently launched a gambit straight out of Saul Alinsky’s ‘Rules for Radicals.’
The Greenwich Republican Town Committee (RTC) took to social media to point out that the Democrat candidate for Board of Estimate and Taxation had served on an advisory board to a World Economic Forum (WEF) panel on long-term investing. And the WEF is the undisputed heartbeat of the transnational ‘Globalist’ movement.
The DTC couldn’t stand to have one of its globalists exposed, so they took a page from their leftist bible, Alinsky’s ‘Rules for Radicals’ and tried to brand criticism of their candidate as antisemitic, because he happens to be Jewish. Who knew? The vice-chair of the Greenwich RTC fired back, focusing on reality and the widely-recognized subversive agenda of Transnational Globalism. The contretemps were covered in an article here.
The Greenwich RTC’s response was on-target. The attack on the Greenwich RTC is all a part of the Left's efforts to silence our criticisms of their policies. The Democrats relied on the shop-worn Alinksy strategy of “polarizing” your opponent’s position, in order to more effectively disparage and dismiss it. Any speech they see that hits the target they seek to label as some kind of radioactive term, e.g., racism, antisemitism or any of their endless list of “phobias.”
Because the Left has to protect the Globalist agenda, they have developed several situational defenses of the term when Globalism in action is exposed. The most visible proponent of Globalism in the U.S. is George Soros. He happens to be Jewish, and the easiest radioactive term they could attach to criticism of Soros’ agenda was “antisemitism.” In order to credential the term ‘Globalist’ as an antisemitic trope they get a major Jewish organization or two, such as the ‘American Jewish Committee,’ to brand it as such – and voila, an effective defense shield for their agenda is erected.
Then, when a criticism is leveled, even on just the town level, they get someone from within the Jewish group to assert and confirm that the word is antisemitic. In the Greenwich case, the American Jewish Committee spokesperson affirms that indeed it is! And then just to appear magnanimous, she offers the RTC a form of absolution in recognizing that everyone doesn't mean it to be antisemitic… but advises that it most assuredly is. This makes them look reasonable this time - but they have now warned the Greenwich RTC on the record. The clear implication is that if Globalist is used again, you've been warned and the leftist Democrats will go nuclear in return. The whole Greenwich DTC gambit is devised to INOCULATE themselves from the Globalist label and any criticism of globalist policies going forward.
We cannot have leftist Democrats deciding what words we can use. It’s the essence of what George Orwell warned of, “destroy the language and you control the body-politic.” The Globalist movement is deadly to our country’s role as leader of the Free World, and will, in time, prove fatal to democracies around the world. Use of the descriptive term Globalist, which puts a transnational globalist agenda ahead of the interests of the U.S. or it’s states or cities, is too important to be struck from our lexicon.
Should we accede to the demands of the leftist Democrats this time, similar attempts will follow. Before long, criticism of their policies will be impossible – which is exactly the objective of this entire gambit. We can not, and will not have it.
