Indivisible Stamford is calling on members to boycott Avelo Airlines after the company entered into a contract with DHS to deport illegal immigrants.
Avelo CEO Andrew Levy indicated earlier this week that the company did not meet expectations in the first quarter of 2025 due to reduced demand in New Haven, and said it needed the contract with DHS to help stabilize finances in order to continue to operate.
That didn't stop Indivisible Stamford comrade AG William Tong from sending a letter to Avelo, threatening to "revisit" support received by the company from the State of Connecticut.
Indivisible Stamford is also calling on members to sign the petition started by the New Haven Immigrants Coalition, promising not to fly Avelo until the company stops ICE flights.
"We pledge to boycott the airline until they stop plans to profit off ICE flights that are tearing families and communities apart and removing some legal residents, such as Maryland father Kilmar Abrego Garcia, with no recourse for returning to their families," says the petition.
"A leaked internal memo states that the deportation flights will make up for operating losses at Tweed Airport, thereby funding New Haven’s airport through cruel deportation practices. New Haven is Avelo’s largest hub, with more flights in and out of HVN than any other airport," the petition continues. "On June 30th, six weeks after Avelo starts ICE flights, the free pass on Avelo’s fuel tax bill in Connecticut expires. We further demand that the CT legislature NOT renew this massive tax cut for Avelo that would effectively provide state subsidy for Trump Administration deportation practices."
Apparently 28 out of 30 New Haven alders have already signed the petition, along with more than 30,000 others, in order to punish a private company for doing what it needs to do to stay afloat.
The 'Indivisibles" were funded by Soros in 2016 as a reaction to Trump's election. They have been involved in elections, poll worker training, street presence and much, much more. No surprise here.
