On January 6, 2026, the US Department of Justice sued the State of Connecticut over its refusal to turn over full voter rolls upon request.
Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley ordered Connecticut Secretary of State Stephanie Thomas to show cause as to why the state hasn’t violated federal law by illegally hiding its voter rolls.
A hearing on the instant Order to Show Cause has been scheduled for January 29, 2026 at 10am in Bridegport.
“As Secretary of the State, my foremost responsibility is to the voters of Connecticut who entrust the state and their local election officials with sensitive data so they can participate in our representative democracy without fear that their information will be misused or exposed,” said Thomas. “As Connecticut knows, our office takes election integrity seriously, and we follow the law while making sure our elections remain accessible, secure, and transparent.”
It's worth mentioning that Connecticut is a member of the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a voter roll maintenance system that has been accused of fraud and bloating voter rolls.
