But The Diehards Vow To Keep Coming Back, Even If They Don't Really Know Exactly Why They Are Protesting!

Stamford Tesla Protest (3/16/25)

Some of the angry liberals who protested at Stamford Tesla two weeks ago came back on Sunday.

This time around, there wasn't a clear leader in charge of rallying the troops and coordinating with the media.

There wasn't an organized march led by someone on a megaphone reciting chants about how much they hate billionaire nazi oligarchs and their swasticars.

No angry activists parading down the road toward the Tesla Service Center or around the parking lot.

There was much less fanfare this time, less than half the crowd, and it didn't last that long before fizzling out.

A marked police car sat in the Tesla parking lot the entire time--a huge deterrent that kept protestors away--while other police cars patrolled the retail store parking lots and the road by the protest.

One of the officers said out of 18 police cars normally on active patrol in Stamford, that 4 or 5 were redirected to the protest, potentially resulting in slower response times to 911 calls.

The crowd was much more toned down and less enthusiastic than they were the last time, only shouting and chanting a few times when cameras were rolling. Perhaps it was the dreary weather or maybe they're already losing steam... which wouldn't be a surprise considering Trump's approval ratings.

We recognized some of the protestors from the first Stamford protest and from the Westport Women's Day March -- these are the ones on the "circuit" who try to hit multiple protests a day if they can. Like the folks who were headed to the pro-Ukraine rally later in Fairfield, treating protesting as if it were a full time job. Indeed for some of them, it just might be a paying job.

This time we blended in with the crowd so we could find out more about who the protestors really were, where they came from, and why they were driven to protest, many of them for three weeks in a row.

We met protestors from Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, Milford, Bridgeport, New Haven and Westchester County, NY. Only two of the dozens of people we asked were from Stamford.

Most protestors didn't have much to say about why they were there, other than to rattle off key points from a list prepared for them in advance, courtesy of the Tesla Takedown website, which also included a longer document on the alleged "evils" of DOGE that, from what we could tell, most people hadn't read.

We asked why protestors thought "the richest man on the planet" would need to steal from them, but no one could really answer the question. They just said "because he's a nazi" and "a billionaire oligarch" even though no one could tell us what the term "oligarch" means either.

We asked if they had heard the protests were being funded by mega donors like George Soros and Reid Hoffman through Act Blue, which is under investigation for fraud and may also be investigated following credible allegations that it provided fundraising and payment processing services for terror-linked organizations and nonprofits, according to Rep. Darrell Issa.

We just got a confused stare in return.

We asked why they are opposed to "government efficiency" especially considering Trump is just doing the same thing their idol Barack Obama did when he announced a DOGE in 2011.

People were literally unable to process this information, and couldn't believe Barry would do such a thing.

They shrugged their shoulders, rolled their eyes, and shook their heads in disbelief at the video.

We asked why they felt "no one voted for this" when in fact the majority of voters in this country elected Donald Trump, effectively giving him a mandate to implement the promises he made on the campaign trail, including DOGE.

That question triggered one man to snap and scream that DOGE cuts would result in "millions of deaths." He quickly apologized for "getting a little excited" then said in his calmest voice how much better life would have been if the Butler assassin had just been successful.

He expressed genuine concern that, based on the angle of our questions, we had been tricked by fake news, so he recommended we start listening to a NYTimes podcast by Ezra Klein to get straightened out.

We challenged him to consider listening to Trump in his own words instead of always using the lens of the NYTimes to tell him what to think, so he could get straightened out. He said he will never change, no matter what, and he's not open to any ideas or media sources that validate Trump. He’d rather stick with propaganda from the NYTimes.

Speaking of propaganda, one woman was wearing a backpack from a notorious race-baiting website called the "Anti-Racist Social Club" where "white people and non-black people" can go to learn about their privilege, why they should feel guilty about it, and what they can do to become a better ally.

The woman was yelling at people in cars as they passed by and getting into arguments with people.

Is that how anti-racists become a better ally? By yelling at complete strangers and calling them racists?

At any rate, you get the gist.

Protest season is in full swing, and radical progressives like Connecticut’s own Senator, Chris Murphy, are calling for mobilizing "not thousands of Americans, not tens of thousands of Americans, but hundreds of thousands of Americans..." to take to the streets.

So expect more weekend protests, including ones in Westport and Milford next weekend, in the run-up to the left's next big nationwide protest, the Hands Off! Mass Mobilization on April 5th.

Hands Off will be a peaceful protest, right?
