US Representative Jim Himes just sent an email to constituents all about "book bans" and challenges that are being made all across America by so-called "MAGA Extremists".

But no matter how hard Democrats like Jim Himes try to tell you that "out of touch MAGA Extremists" are trying to ban books, the truth is that concerned citizens, including plenty of regular folks who don't care one bit about politics, just want to make sure that school library and classroom books are age-appropriate. That is all. No one is trying to stop publishers from publishing these books -- that would be a true book ban -- rather, concerned adults simply want to ensure that the content in books given to children inside a school setting is in fact suitable according to the standards of the community.

After all, the protection of children should be the primary concern for all adults in the community, especially since there are known risks to exposing children to pornographic content before they are mature enough to handle it. Remember this article from the NIH's Pub Med database?

Exposure to sexually explicit media in early adolescence is related to risky sexual behavior in emerging adulthood.

In fact, most previous studies have shown that exposure to sexually-explicit content during adolescence is related to early sexual debut, inconsistent condom use, unsafe sex, and multiple sexual partners. The conclusion of the study said:

"Exposure to sexually-explicit media in early adolescence had a substantive relationship with risky sexual behavior in the emerging adulthood. Knowledge of this causal-like effect provides a basis for building better preventive programs in early adolescence. One prominent way is early education on media literacy."

Instead of recommending better preventative programs or early education about media literacy, Himes plans on reading three frequently banned books this summer: The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

Let's take a closer look at The Bluest Eye. This book is rated "not for minors" in a detailed review by BookLooks. Ten states have restricted usage of this book in school, including Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah.

The book has been challenged for profanity and derogatory racist terms, detailed descriptions of sexual activities and sexual assault, alcohol use and inflammatory racial and religious commentary. In one particular passage, a dying man describes the pleasure he derived out of molesting "little girls" as the only thing he will miss when he dies.

"The little girls are the only things I'll miss. Do you know that when I touched their sturdy little **** and bit them—just a little—I felt I was being friendly? I didn't want to kiss their mouths or sleep in the bed with them or take a child bride for my own. Playful, I felt, and friendly... I gave them mints, money, and they'd eat ice cream with their legs open while I played with them... With little girls it is all clean and good and friendly."

Another passage describes the sexual assault of a child who subsequently loses consciousness and faints on the kitchen floor.

Himes references PEN America’s new Index of School Book Bans in the email. The group maintains a list of all books that have been challenged and/or removed by district across all states.

The top 11 books that have been pulled from school library shelves from 2022-2023 include: Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe, Flamer by Mike Curato, Tricks by Ellen Hopkins, The Handmaid’s Tale (Graphic Novel) by Margaret Atwood and Renee Nault, Crank by Ellen Hopkins, Sold by Patricia McCormick, Push by Sapphire, A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas, This Book Is Gay by Juno Dawson, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur.

In the email Himes said, "The hallmark of human enlightenment is a willingness to expose oneself to challenging, uncomfortable and even disruptive ideas. That’s how we learn. It’s how we develop understanding and tolerance."

But why would Jim Himes suggest promoting sexually-explicit media like this to children when it is already well-known that the learning which results from exposure to this content is "early sexual debut, inconsistent condom use, unsafe sex, and multiple sexual partners"? Is that what he wants children to learn?

When someone is promoting pornography for children, that is the real extremism. Democrats have moral values so twisted there really doesn't seem to be any hope for the citizens of this country. Appealing to the basest level of humanity is utterly depraved.

when someone in a position of power like this starts promoting this type of evil they should be investigated.

this guy is a pedophile. I'll bet money on it.

No straw-man arguments, please. No one is "burning" books - they are available thru booksellers and public libraries. These books ARE most-assuredly "age-inappropriate" for K-12. That's the focus - and that's the line Jim Himes explicitly recommends and supports be breached. Ask him for an explanation of why their content is appropriate for children. Himes has been a puppet of the radical left of his party since he was elected, one of Nancy Pelosi's faithful minions. You're right, he's no moderate. He just moves with the radical crowd and "votes the way the leaders tell 'em to." He's got the intelligence of Jerry Nadler.

Jim Himes is aligned with, and enables, the most hard-left elements of the Democrat party. A few weeks back he voted AGAINST the 'Parents Bill of Rights'. Here's my take on his despicable votes: https://conta.cc/3TRHf28

#24-Eliminate laws governing obscenity by calling it "censorship" and violation of free speech.
#25-Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and television.
#26- Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy".

Yes, they really are coming for your children.

What have we come to as a society, that a sitting U.S. Congressman calls others "out of touch MAGA extremists" for arguing that pornographic books are not appropriate library acquisitions for young people. And then laughably says he's going to read three adult titles that are not even among these. The inability to distinguish between banning books for ADULTS and failing to exercise discretion when making pornographic books available to children exposes a shallow intellect.
