Parental rights group Darien Parents is asking whether the Darien community realizes exactly how much transgender themes are being promoted to impressionable young students after a recent incident where a gender fluidity book was assigned to Advanced English 8th graders.

This time the group is highlighting the pro-transgender book The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson. The Middlesex Middle School library stocks 21 copies of this book, accessible to students as young as 11 years old.

The young adult novel follows the story of two transgender teenagers and addresses topics like hatred of your own sexual organs, chest binders, hormone blockers, underage drinking, sex, attempted rape, and irreversible gender reassignment surgery, without any mention of the potential permanent physical side effects of such surgery or the drugs.

Darien Parents points out that, for the sake of comparison, the middle school library stocks just 12 copies of Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone, the first book in a series that has sold over 500 million copies globally. There is just one copy of Catcher in the Rye and three copies of A Wrinkle in Time, novels most people consider genre classics for this age group. Or looking to the ancient classics, there are only seven copies of Homer's Odyssey. (Source:  Darien Follett Destiny)

"Why are there so many copies of a book that is clearly pushing controversial and potentially age inappropriate themes? What staff or administration member(s) decided this book and this quantity was appropriate for the MMS library? What is the demand from students for this book?" asked the concerned parents.

Good questions, especially considering the reality of "trans contagion" and the fact that puberty blockers, for instance, are irreversible.

The Centinal reached out to Middlesex Middle School and spoke with an Assistant Principal who was entirely unaware that the library had so many copies of this book and did not want to comment on the matter at this time.
