Earlier this week Cromwell Public Schools in Connecticut acknowledged that it had been notified by the U.S. Office of Civil Rights that the federal agency had opened a probe into the school district’s policies after it let a gender-confused boy compete in girl's track.

Cromwell's Board of Education subsequently voted unanimously not to change anything, and to continue to allow participation in sports based on gender identity.

Since then two more Connecticut school districts, Bloomfield and Canton, have been notified that they are also being investigated for potential Title IX violations.

Connecticut democrats have come to the defense of the schools and transgender athletes, entirely ignoring the many harms caused to girls who are losing out opportunities in girls sports to boys.

“What we will not adhere to is divisive bullying in our schools or targeting of transgender students, who deserve to have their rights protected,” Lamont said in a written statement. “At a time when we’re trying to ensure that all students feel connected and engaged, discrimination and exclusion have no place in our schools or in our state.”

The CIAC, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, shared a similar sentiment about wanting "to support the well-being of all student-athletes" -- except apparently not girls because CIAC plans on keeping its policy that allows gender-confused boys to play in girls sports so long as they "identify" as a girl.

If the Office of Civil Rights determines the districts have indeed violated Title IX, then millions of dollars in federal funding could be at risk, including $1.26 million for Cromwell, $3.3 million for Bloomfield and $700,000 in Canton.

It's not a coincidence that all three districts under investigation for potential Title IX violations were cited in the 2019 lawsuit, Soule v. Connecticut Association of Schools.

The case is still pending after a setback during the Biden Administration, and after the plaintiffs filed an amended complaint. The latest update came in November 2024 when the 2nd Circuit Court sent the case back to the district court to consider the full Title IX claims.

The other districts cited in the case were Glastonbury and Danbury, so perhaps they will be next on the civil rights investigation list.

In the meantime, here's an excellent refresher on the case, and the hell that girls like Selina Soule have gone through fighting for their rights, including the backlash and retaliation, just to protect fairness in women's sports and to protect equal opportunities for women.
