Parents Defending Education (PDE) updated a list earlier this month of school districts that have Transgender / Gender Nonconforming Policies which "openly state that district personnel can or should keep a student’s transgender status hidden from parents".

The list includes 26 school districts in Connecticut, along with the Capital Region Education Council which operates 18 magnet schools and 4 Student Service Schools in the Hartford area. Here are the districts that made the list:

Amity Regional School District 5

Bethany Public School District

Bloomfield Public Schools

Branford Public Schools

Capital Region Education Council

Consolidated School District of New Britain

Cromwell Public Schools

East Hartford Public Schools

Easton-Redding-Region 9 School Districts

Ellington Public Schools

Enfield Public Schools

Groton Public Schools

Hamden Public Schools

Hartford Public Schools

Lisbon School District

Marlborough School District

Middletown Public Schools

New Haven Public Schools

New London Public Schools

Newtown Public School District

North Haven Public Schools

Preston Public Schools

Region 14 Schools – Bethlehem & Woodbury

Simsbury Public Schools

Stratford Public Schools

Wallingford Public Schools

Waterbury Public Schools

If you review the various district policies cited above, you will notice that many districts have adopted the recommended language on transgender and gender nonconforming students straight from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) policy service.

In fact, policy number 5145.53 is part of the recommended list of "good policies" that CABE promotes. The policy includes a section on privacy that cautions educators not to disclose information "that may reveal a student's transgender status or gender non-conforming presentation to others, including parents" unless legally required to do so.  Some schools, like Waterbury for instance, use the exact language from CABE.

CABE promotes other radical ideas to members, including the critical race theory-inspired "Equity Toolkit", pro-trans sports policies that negatively impact biological girls, and more, so it should not be a surprise that CABE's policy on trans / gender nonconforming students is also controversial.

PDE acknowledges that its list may not be comprehensive, so if you are aware of another district in Connecticut that has implemented CABE policy 5145.53, or a similar policy to hide student gender from parents, please submit a report to PDE here.
