Indivisible Greenwich Protest in Cos Cob (7/20/26)

Yesterday the Greenwich Free Press treated the weekly Saturday protest at East Putnam Avenue and Indian Field Road as if it were a lesson on morality.

It’s the same small group of Indivisible Greenwich members that started protesting in front of the library more than a year ago, and moved after a few of us counter-protested.

Dan Edelstein, whom we've written about before (here, here, here, here), told GFP he is out there as a “conscience” for “moderate neighbors,” against “the threatened end to democracy,” a president “acting like a king,” and “the actions of ICE.”

Greenwich Indivisible activist Dan Edelstein (3/8/26)

Ironically, Edelstein is okay with King Lamont, who just approved a no-bid contract worth $250,000 to Cardona Solutions LLC — owned by former Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, the same guy who stuffed BLM and critical race theory into a course all CT high schools are required to offer. But we digress.

State officials waived ordinary bidding rules on the contract, but Edelstein’s crowd did not protest this king-like decision.

Edelstein also told GFP that gardeners, teachers, and kitchen workers here illegally are “not a threat to society,” and that “average Americans are much more likely to commit crimes.” He must have forgotten that illegal presence is a federal violation.

And “not a threat” is just a Democrat talking point. One drunk, high, speeding driver who kills an off-duty police officer and a mother of three should be enough to retire the talking point. So should illegal night poaching taking place on the Sound.

Another protester, Cos Cob resident Chris Day, offered this, which GFP printed unchallenged:

“He didn’t win the presidential election. He was caught in Florida with the documents. In Georgia tried to fix the vote... virtually every day, doing something illegal. He’s a felon. He’s a rapist.”

The facts GFP declined to correct:

    • Trump won 2024: 312–226 in the Electoral College and the popular vote.
    • The Florida classified-documents case was dismissed and then dropped. No conviction.
    • The Georgia 2020 election case was dismissed in November 2025. No conviction.
    • “Virtually every day illegal” is rhetoric.
    • He has a New York conviction: 34 counts of falsifying business records (May 2024), unconditional discharge January 2025, appeal is pending (reply brief due mid-October 2026). National Review and the Wall Street Journal editorial page have called that case a politicized stretch of state law and a weak conviction.
    • He has not been convicted of rape. A civil jury found sexual abuse and defamation, not rape under the statute at trial.

    Facts matter.

Now let's talk about the bus-stop story, and Indivisible's Aug 31 email.

Indivisible’s email last night recycled “vicious ICE kidnappings” claims, including a father taken after putting his son on a bus, 65 in Danbury, 19 in Stamford, “a few” in Greenwich. Yes, the arrests and detentions in Danbury last week were real, but executing a removal order is not “kidnapping.”

Sen. Chris Murphy has been repeating the story about ICE targeting parents at Danbury bus stops “just to terrorize little kids.” But on Aug. 30, Border Czar Tom Homan told CNN he was not aware of that incident, denied ICE is “in the business of terrorizing children,” and said he would inquire at DHS. A DHS spokesperson told Fox: “Any claim that ICE targeted parents at a school bus stop is FALSE.” GFP should have printed that next to the comments from Murphy and Mayor Alves.

Plus, Alves’s “racial profiling” line is his opinion, not an official finding. Reese on the Radio exposed that on his show Monday, after interviewing Alves on Saturday. Personal belief is not evidence.

Indivisible also mourns the “lives violently disrupted” and “families torn apart” by enforcing federal immigration law. They skip the labor-market half of the story. Employers often pay illegals far less than minimum wage. However, when employers cannot hire illegal workers off the books, they have to bid for legal workers, which drives working class wages up.

The rate for an illegal alien dishwasher in West Haven / waitress in Meriden: $650 a week cash, 11-hour days, six days on — that’s $9.85 an hour, more than 40% below the Connecticut minimum wage of $16.94. Screenshot, Facebook.

But wait, there's more! Indivisible Greenwich also wants you to donate to the activist group Danbury Unites for Immigrants (DUFI). Potential donors might be interested in learning a thing or two about the group before opening their wallets.

DUFI co-founder Juan Fonseca Tapia has called ICE “Nazis,” lectured “you all white people,” said anger is his fuel, and claimed the “end goal” of immigration enforcement is “a white ethnostate” and “ethnic cleansing.”

Is this what our Indivisible Greenwich neighbors actually think? That enforcing federal immigration law is tantamount to ethnic cleansing?

Because that sounds like something an extremist might say.

GFP has allowed that ‘extremist’ label to be used on us in letters it has published many times. Yet it has not used the label on Indivisible Greenwich. Telling, isn’t it?

Anyway, Indivisible Greenwich is gearing up for yet another "No Kings" on October 17th because they have to protect the "earliest days of in-person voting" and mail-in votes for midterms.

We’re guessing they’re a wee bit less excited that Connecticut is one of nine states named in DHS/HSI’s September–mid-October voter-fraud surge than we are.
